Adventure Cove
The addition of Adventure Cove will strengthen the Zoo's commitment to sea lion rehabilitation activities. For years, the Columbus Zoo has provided financial support to the Marine Mammal Center (MMC) in Sausalito, Calif., for rescue and rehabilitation efforts, and the Zoo's Animal Health staff has trained with the MMC to nurse stranded and injured marine mammals back to health while expanding their knowledge of sea lions and seals. Although California sea lions are not categorized as a threatened species, the situation for wild sea lions is becoming increasingly grim due to an increase in pup strandings. As climate change compels moms to forage further from shore, fewer of them return, leaving orphaned pups unable to fend for themselves.
